You can manually lock your garage door from the inside
Your garage door should have two horizontal bars connected in the center of the door. Move the bars out to the sides of the door and you’ll see slots in the tracks where you can insert the thin bars. Once engaged, the bars prevent the door from sliding on the tracks.
Keep your fingers off the door panels when closing a sectional garage door
The panels will straighten on the way down and fingers can get caught between panels as they line up. You may think that this is a no-brainer but according to the 2007 NEISS report, an estimated 7557 fingers a year were caught between panels each year.
Secure your garage door when going away on a vacation
If you are leaving your home for a period of time, it is highly recommended to unplug your opener unit and instead switching on the vacation lock console. It will help if your alarm systems, CCTV cameras, and other security products are also activated.
Get your door inspected
If someone accidentally runs into your door, a professional service technician should evaluate it. They will check to make sure the doors parts are still working properly. Even if you do not see any damage, allow an expert to tell you for certain.
Automatic door problems may require sensor realignment
The erratic functioning of your automatic garage door opener may be attributed to the sensors. They may need cleaning and realignment. In order to realign your garage door opener sensors, you can refer to your door opener’s manual for the specific instructions. Replacement may not be needed yet.
Your door opener may need to be reset
A garage door opener that makes your door reopen on its own or move shakily while closing or opening may need to be reset. This kind of defect can be observed in most door opener brands, from Chamberlain to Liftmaster. The procedures for resetting may slightly vary but usually, you will have to unplug the power supply and replug it after a short while.
What is the right lubricating solution to use?
Our garage door maintenance experts recommend the use of lithium or silicon spray lubricants instead of using grease or used automotive oil. When doing lubrication maintenance for your doors, it is also recommended avoiding WD-40 and thick lubricating substances since they only attract dirt and dust to the garage door parts treated.
